A POLICEWOMAN from Bolton faces the sack after she drove to work in Manchester at more than twice the drink-drive limit.

Paula Grindrod, aged 42, has been suspended and will face an internal investigation after she pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Colleagues noticed that Grindrod, who lives with husband Paul, also a police officer, in Bradshaw Meadows, Bradshaw, was under the influence when she arrived at a police station in the city.

She was arrested by workmates who breathalysed her.

She was found to have 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliletres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

She was suspended from Greater Manchester Police earlier this month after pleading guilty at Tameside magistrates and was fined £400 and banned from driving for 20 months.

A spokesman for the force said: "A 42-year-old serving police officer was charged with drink-driving on Thursday, December 8. Paula Grindrod was released on bail and appeared at Tameside magistrates on Tuesday, December 13, when she pleaded guilty to the offence. PC Grindrod was suspended from duty pending an internal misconduct assessment."

She was unavailable for comment on Friday at her home but her husband said: "She is a professional police officer and the rules for professional police officers stipulate you cannot make statements to the media about such matters."
