A MAN who carried out a burglary as an act of revenge left behind blood, fingerprints and footprints, a court heard.

Darren Ryan told police his motive for the crime was to recover money from the householders stepson.

Ryan, aged 24, of Woodgate Street, Great Lever, asked for another offence of stealing a number plate to be taken into consideration.

The offence took place on October 17, while the householders were out, Preston Crown Court heard.

Michael Murray, prosecuting, said Ryan broke into the home in Fairview Drive, Adlington, and stole a safe. The items inside the safe have since been recovered.

A neighbour saw the defendant leaving the house and noted the registration number of a vehicle that he got into.

Ryan told police he was recovering money from the stepson of the householder.

Mark Kellet, defending, said Ryan had a drug problem.

"He has shown some degree of remorse for the burglary. He made a full and frank confession to police and pleaded guilty at an early stage of the proceedings."

Ryan was sentenced to 32 weeks prison, suspended for 18 months and ordered to undergo 12-month supervision and drug rehabilitation order.
