DETECTIVES investigating the theft of £30,000 worth of cigarettes have appealed for information about a car used by robbers.

A 44-year-old man was loading cigarettes into a red Ford Transit van in the yard of Turner and Wright's warehouse in Lostock, Bolton, at 8.20am on Wednesday when he was approached by two masked men.

The pair pushed him to the ground and threatened him with a knife.

They then fled with his van and a Mini Cooper car they had arrived in.

The grey Mini, which had a white roof and wheels and a registration number starting YE03, had been stolen from Westhoughton on December 20.

It was found burned out on Hindley Road, Westhoughton, at 6.20pm on Wednesday. The Transit van was found on fire on Hindley Road, Wigan, at 6.25pm.

Police are keen to trace the movements of both cars between the robbery and when they were set on fire.
