The Railwaymen made it three wins in four matches to pull further away from the relegation zone, but how they made their fans suffer.
RMI created a panful of chances and should have won at a canter but in the end were fortunate to come away with the three points.
John Lamb was the hero, producing a great diving save in the 88th minute to deny Craig Wilding, after the big striker looked to have just fallen down in the box, but was adjudged to have been fouled by Tony Dunne.
Leigh grabbed an 18th minute lead with a sweetly struck free-kick from midfielder Scott Willis, who repeated his two-goal show against Hucknall last week.
Willis grabbed his second a minute from the break when Chris Simm teed the ball up for him and he produced a lovely lob over the keeper.
Leigh had a handful of chances in the second-half to put the game out of reach, but squandered them all, and looked to have paid the price when Simon Hollis fired Redditch back in contention in the 74th minute, only for Lamb to save the day.
