JODIE Harrison is combining studying for a university degree with taking the first steps in a modelling career.

The ex-Smithills pupil is in the middle of a four-year course in Arabic at Manchester University and moves to Cairo in September as part of the course.

But the 22-year-old from Breightmet would give up the trip if her chosen career takes off.

For she dreams of life as a model and has already been involved in a national competition launched by The Sun to find the UK's next Samantha Fox.

Although she did not get into the final, she remains ambitious . . . and is also a girl of contrasts.

She passed her A-levels with three Bs - in psychology, religious studies and sociology.

And she also enjoys curling up with some embroidery and crocheting.

She said: "I am full of contradictions.

"I had done a bit of modelling before but nothing like The Sun competition.

"I've always wanted to have a go and it looked like fun, so I emailed some of my pictures to the newspaper and they invited me to a photo shoot in London.

"I am about to start doing nail artwork for girls at university to bring in some money.

"But a regular modelling job or more glamour work would be great."

Jodie first became interested in Arabic at Bolton North Sixth Form College.

She said: "I originally went to university to do a psychology degree but was more interested in Arabic, so changed.

"I can speak it pretty well, but I am better at reading and writing it."

Jodie is fully supported in her quest to become a glamour model by mum Chris and sister Kirsty, aged 19.

She said: "My family all think it is great and have said 'Go for it'."
