LEIGH Centurions jetted out to France on Tuesday to continue their preparations for the Northern Rail Cup - starting next month.

But it seems there will be no game against SM Pia, the French Championship side who beat Keighley Cougars last year in the Challenge Cup.

"I think the trip will give us a lot of value and allow us to work on things that we can look at on the video of the Widnes game", explained Leigh coach Tony Benson.

"We can work on defensive things as well as mental toughness in a different environment fron the one we are used to", he added.

Leigh will play a game on the European mainland against Harlequins during the trip - the side formerly known as London Broncos for whom France is a traditional pre-campaign retreat.

But Benson and the Centurions coaching staff have a tremendous base from which to continue preparations for the season after their win over Widnes, achieved without Mick Govin, Danny Halliwell, Dana Wilson, Adam Hughes, Dean Gaskell and the injured Warren Stevens (broken hand).

"We've shown that we can be strong under pressure and already have done a lot of things that please us", added Benson.

But the coach remains tight-lipped on the disciplinary measures to be meted out to Richard Moore after his sending off marred the New Year win over the Vikings.
