A 44-YEAR-OLD driver clocked doing 136mph on the motorway told police his wife 'had the runs'.

Nicholas Lawrence Kingston, of Hollins Lane, Bury, pleaded guilty at Blackburn magistrates to speeding on the M65.

He was banned for six months and fined £350 with £35 costs.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Kingston was driving on the M65 near Blackburn when the speed of his BMW was checked using Vascar time and distance equipment which gave a reading of 136.14mph. Sentencing him, the magistrate said the speed was extremely high.

"This was a reckless act and could have caused harm not only to you and your wife, but also to other road users," said the chairman.
