I WOULD like to express my most sincere thanks to everyone in the districts of Bury, Tottington and Walshaw who donated towards the 2005 Poppy Appeal.
I include the business and commerce outlets where 600 collecting boxes were placed, static points in shopping complexes and supermarkets, and the dedicated band of willing helpers and supporters from all walks of life - not forgetting the cadets of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The collection was an outstanding success, totalling £32,000 which is £600 up on the previous year, and the best ever for the districts since records began.
I believe the increase to be due to the 60th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War and the coverage from the media. It is my pleasure to serve as honorary appeal organiser in these districts and to work with such loyal and dedicated supporters.
