HAVE we 'bin' hoodwinked over recycling. I will try again, through your letters column, to provoke a response from our councillors, to establish if the people of Bolton are being given all the facts regarding financial penalties likely to fall on the shoulders of council tax payers if we do not meet the required targets.

Perhaps the following questions could be answered by any of our councillors.

1. Are we an independent authority as far as recycling is concerned or are we linked to the other authorities that form Greater Manchester?

2. If Bolton reaches the required targets and other authorities in Greater Manchester do not, what, if any, are the financial implications?

3. Why is Bolton council not recycling its own plastic and glass like other authorities rather than have the expense of transporting it to Darwen for others to profit from?

4. Paper is collected very efficiently by a private company although subsidised, have any companies been contacted to provide a similar service for plastic and glass collections even if the service was subsidised it would surely be more cost effective?

5. If Bolton is doing so well with its recycling targets why then are we likely to face an increase of £1m paid to Greater Manchester waste for landfill? If its being recycled its not being put in the ground.

As the liberals have control of the authority this is an ideal opportunity for the opposition parties to have their say on this issue!
