In the Warburton Cup they received 7.5 points start from fellow Premier Division team Little Lever A, who fielded Ron Drowse, Graham Jeffries and Steve McNicholas At the third set the points were even but, from 15 points down in the fifth set Little Lever gradually moved ahead to win a very entertaining match by 35 points.

In the Gittins final their opponents were Premier team Hilton A, who gave them 35.5 points start. Burning Desire held their own against Hilton’s Mark Gibson, Ron Pennington and Dave Pickard until the penultimate set, when Hilton moved ahead by four points, and consolidated their position in the final set to win an excellent match by 22 points The George Yates Shield final also produced some excellent table tennis, and in a very close match Heaton D from Division Two beat Division three top team St Catherine’s D by 28 points.

The St Cath’s trio, Stuart McCaig, Debbie Wilson and Roy Alty received 70.5 points start from Heaton’s John Cartledge, Alan Crompton and John Scowcroft St Cath’s held an ever reducing lead until the fifth set when Heaton moved five points ahead. Heaton consolidated their score over the remaining four sets to clinch their victory The feature of the four finals was the excellent standard of play achieved by all the teams, who are to be congratulated.
