I HAVE never been a big fan of Thai food. I’ve had the odd meal at home which has been nice but the only meal I’d had in a restaurant I didn’t enjoy and it definitely put me off.

So when I headed out for a meal with friends and found out we were going to Buddha Lounge I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it.

How wrong I was!

I headed back there with my husband to treat him to the delicious food. We were whisked straight to a table in the window, a curve of floor to ceiling glass that stretches across one side of the restaurant.

The menu is extensive, promising authentic Thai cuisine. We decided to go for a Khao San Road Mixed Platter, £5.95 a person, to sample a range of starters, which were chicken satay, green curry golden bag, vegetable spring roll, chicken and prawn Thai dumpling and garlic chicken wings.

It came beautifully presented and piping hot on a glass platter, with the waitress identifying each dish. Every one was delicious.

Starters range from £2 to £6, with plenty of seafood and vegetarian options. We were spoilt for choice on main courses with curries, stir-fries, seafood, noodle and rice dishes galore.

You can choose your meat and the spiciness of your meal to create exactly what you want. I had enjoyed my meal so much during my first visit that I went for mild chicken Thai red curry (£7.95) with egg noodles (£4) again, it was scrumptious.

My husband went for medium chicken Thai green curry (£7.95) with sticky rice (£3), which was declared very tasty. Both dishes were again nicely presented and hot.

The portion sizes really are generous and we couldn’t finish our dishes.

After a breather we perused the dessert menu, which offers ice cream, sorbet, South-Aisan dishes and traditional English desserts from £4.25. We opted for ice cream and were so glad we did, it was yummy! Three scoops were £4.25, with a choice of ten flavours.

We washed it all down with a couple of glasses of diet coke and white wine.

The staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant is lovely, modern décor and a relaxed atmosphere. The food is just to die for and at £57.40 for two, not a bad price.

I have now been converted to Thai food and would highly recommend Buddha Lounge, which also has a restaurant in Ramsbottom.
