A BOLTON Euro MP has demanded the EU subsidy for bullfighting and other “blood fiestas” comes to an end.
Paul Nuttall, the UKIP MEP, says he is horrified European states, including Britain, are spending £37million per year to directly subsidise bullfighting in Spain.
It has been reported EU cash is also being used to renovate rundown bullrings and animal welfare campaigners, the Fight Against Animal Cruelty in Europe (FAACE), say thousands of blood fiestas take place in villages throughout Spain each year.
Mr Nuttall said: “FAACE shows on its website images of these so-called blood fiestas and incidents where pigeons and squirrels are being pelted with stones and where chickens have been hacked to death by blindfolded villagers. I am horrified that British money is being used to fund such events.”
