Johan Elmander and Martin Petrov have both scored excellent goals in the last two games – but equally, both have been guilty of glaring misses that could have wrapped up all three points.

While Petrov was the hero against Man United and Elmander squandered his chance to seal a victory over the Reds, the roles were reversed at the Hawthorns.

Our Sweden striker netted for the fourth time this season to put Wanderers into the lead against West Brom – but Petrov missed a glorious one-on-one opportunity to beat the Baggies.

It might seem harsh to point the finger, but that is the reason we pay these players thousands of pounds a week – so that when that one crucial chance arises, they bury it.

Matty Taylor missed another great chance late on too, and it appears that, at the moment, we are lacking that touch of composure.

Stuart Holden said it all on Twitter, writing: "Frustrating ... we gave up another late goal in a game we should have won. We are playing well enough to win these games."

Owen Coyle needs to instill a big team mentality, because that is the difference between winning and, well, not winning.

Teams like Man United and Chelsea don't miss the one chance they get, they take it – they punish teams.

Even if their opponents only make one mistake in 90 minutes, they make sure they take full advantage – and that is what we need to start doing.

We need to kill off our prey as soon as we get that one shot.

On a positive note, we have still only lost one game in seven and our away record is enviable.

But we are clearly drawing too many fixtures at the moment.

Apart from the Birmingham match, where we did well to recover from a two-goal deficit with 10 men, we could have won each and every one of the other games we have drawn.

Yes, the results against Villa and United were better than expected, but our level of play so far this season, besides our finishing, deserves more than eight points.

We need to start capitalising on the football we are now producing and begin turning good performances into more goals and more points.

At this point, I’ve turned to my mate and fellow die-hard Bolton fan Greg to ask him if there’s anything else I should point out in this week’s column.

He reckons I should say that despite the fact Wanderers haven’t got an amazing amount of points on the board yet this season, we are very much enjoying watching a much better standard of football than the drivel we had to endure prior to Coyle’s arrival in January.

We are proud to be Whites supporters once more.

P.S. Dear Points of View ... why, oh why, oh why were Bolton Wanderers shown last on Match of the Day, when clearly they should have shown Man United's dismally dull 0-0 draw at the end of the show, then we could all have gone to bed 20 minutes earlier?
