GIRL power was mobilised in Halliwell on Saturday at a special community event.

Halliwell Women Together, held at the Brownlow Fold Community Learning College, celebrated the skills and the strength of women living in the area while helping boost community relations and inspiring them to make a difference.

Shaheen Sameja, Halliwell and Crompton’s neighbourhood manager, said: “The event was held so woman could find out about the different organisations and agencies which can help them and how they too can help improve the community.

“Women have so many skills and strengths, which often they are modest about, but they can be channelled into the community. There are so many inspirational women living in Halliwell.”

Miss Sameja said through the event she had already found women who she would enlist to take the area forward.

Those who visited had an opportunity to find out everything from healthy eating to getting back into education as well as meeting their neighbourhood police officers.

Entertainment was provided by Halliwell Street Dancers; Shpresa Bollywood dancers; and a monologue from Monica Ballani, a Halliwell resident.

There were also a number of free workshops healthy cooking, yoga, colour analysis, get fit with Wii, arts workshops and mini pamper sessions.

Lofty Junior also attended to let residents know about how Bolton Wanderers FC football in the community programme was helping schools and young people in the area from teaching them about healthy living to football coaching sessions.
