ACTOR Sir Ian McKellen is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The former Bolton School pupil will be honoured at the Savannah Film Festival on November 4.

He is also set to teach drama students at the Savannah College of Art and Design in the USA.

Savannah Film Festival executive director, Danny Filson said: “All our honoured guests are asked to take the opportunity to meet the students and look at student work.

“Sir Ian came in saying, I would like to teach a master class with the students, would you please schedule this for me?” Filming on The Hobbit movie is due to start next year.

Director Peter Jackson said is considering moving shooting from New Zealand to the UK following a dispute with the New Zealand Actors Equity.

Sir Ian is expected to reprise his role as wizard Gandalf in the two-part prequel to The Lord of the Rings.
