THE landlocked town of Leigh will get a taste of the seaside this summer when council bosses set up a beach in the town square.
Leigh will have its very own sandy beach for four days when organisers hope the sun will shine down.
All the usual seaside attractions will be on hand including donkey rides, carousels, candy floss and buckets and spades. There will also be Punch and Judy shows and face painting at the nearby Spinning Gate shopping centre. Janis Maleedy, Wigan Council's town centre co-ordinator, said: "The old wakes weeks usually meant a trip to the seaside for thousands of Leythers, but these days you don't have to be beside the seaside to have a beach.
"Leigh Sports Village builders ROK have been very supportive now we just need the sun to do its bit."
The beach will be open for enjoyment from 11am to 5pm from Wednesday August 9 to Saturday August 12.
