A COLLECTION of military medals has been stolen from an army museum.
Police today launched an appeal for witnesses after thieves struck at the Wellington Barracks Army Regiment HQ in Bolton Road, Bury.
The incident happened between 10am and 4pm on July 27.
The medals included a 1914 - 1918 victory medal and a King George V bravery medal.
It is thought the offenders legitimately entered the museum at the barracks and stole medals from a frame, which was on display. A police spokesman said: "The total value of the items stolen is around £550. The medals were presented to Acting Sergeant Kendal of the Royal Fusiliers and his name is imprinted around the leading edge of each medal."
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the theft or who has information regarding the whereabouts of the medals to contact PC Steve Mulvihill on 0161 856 8025 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
