DELI sandwich chain Subway has paid tribute to the developer which found its new premises in Bolton, creating 30 new jobs in the process.

Subway struck a deal with Orbit Developments for new sites for three franchises, totalling 205 square metres at Middlebrook in Horwich, Burnden Park, and the Lowry outlet in Salford Quays.

The deals came after the Subway chain approached the Cheshire based developer for sites in the North-west.

Subway developer Deirdre Anderson said: "We approached Orbit with a view to identifying several sites that would be appropriate for opening franchises. A number of locations were drawn up and we decided up on the Lowry, Middlebrook and Burnden Park because of their suitability to the Subway system.

"We are continuously seeking appropriate property to accommodate our franchise programme and hope to work with Orbit again.

"We have managed to secure great locations for the two new stores the store in Burnden Park retail centre in Manchester Road is next to the 24-hour Asda superstore, and the store in Middlebrook Leisure Park is next to the Reebok Stadium."

Orbit director Tony Jones said: "We are extremely pleased to have been able to accommodate the Subway chain.

"Within our portfolio, there are a number of sites that complement businesses of this kind and we will continue to work with the Subway chain to assist in any future requirements the company may have."

The Burnden Park site opened last week, and the outlet at Middlebrook opens on Monday, August 7.

Ms Anderson, who now owns 35 Subway stores, has been a franchise owner for the chain since 2000 when she opened her first store in Bradford, West Yorkshire. She said: "The popularity of the Subway chain in Bolton has been phenomenal."
