TWO trialists have the chance to prove themselves to manager Andy Nelson, who hopes for a testing friendly at Unibond Division One side Rossendale United tonight.

Centre-half James Glendenning and goalkeeper Alan Fitzpatrick will take part in the game which will involve all of RMI's first team squad.

Glendenning is a former Southport and Vauxhall Motors defender, while Fitzpatrick is a student at Liverpool.

Nelson's hopes of signing Steve Abbot were dashed when the midfielder returned to Bath University but he was quickly replaced by the experienced Gareth Stoker who returned to Hilton Park saying he was unhappy with life at Scarborough.

Giant striker Dan Owen, who has joined the Railwaymen after a stint in the United States, will also get a chance to impress after he caused Altrincham problems in Leigh's 2-0 win last week.

"Pre-season has gone well and I was pleased with our performance against Altrincham," said Nelson. "I will have a look at the two players tonight but because I have such a tight budget I am struggling to keep the squad together.

"Rossendale should provide us with a nice test and I hope it will be an entertaining game on a good pitch."

RMI entertain FC United on Saturday as part of a deal that has taken young centre-back Liam Coyne to the North West Counties Division One side.
