GOLBORNE must be wishing they could turn back the clock.

After a miserable first half of the season when they failed to gain a win, the club has now climbed away from the foot of the table with five successive victories.

Their latest success came at Astley and Tyldesley, where their batsmen piled up 233-7, a total that was always going to test the home side.

Graham Marston led the way with a stylish 68 not out and he was given solid support by Dale Tyrer 56 and John Waterworth 29, Astley's only real success came from Simon Nicklin, who managed to eke out four wickets for 76 runs.

When Astley batted, Marston and Jamie Roberts took control, and although Shahid Mahboob (61) and Paul Ben Nett (57) did their best to delay the inevitable, the lack of any real help from the rest of the order saw them dismissed for 174 Leaders Elton took their rest day, which enabled Walshaw, Edgworth and Darcy Lever to close the gap a little after they all registered wins.

Walshaw bowled out Daisy Hill for only 77 before racing to a seven-wicket success. Pervez Suma hit 30 runs out of the total but it was bowlers Danny Hornby (6-52) and Jason Whittaker (4-25) who made the difference.

Blackrod's Chris Sanderson equalled the Association wicketkeeping record of five stumpings in a match when he matched Gordon Wilcox's feat for Atherton in 1986. Will Halton also claimed 7-84, but the game belonged to Edgworth, who won by 25 runs. Edgworth reached 197, much of that total provided by another good innings of 71 from Nick Kernick, while deputy pro Wettasinghe, from Bradshaw, added 68. In reply, Blackrod reached 172, Graeme Walsh top scoring with 60, while Chris Mather claimed 5-54.

Darcy Lever's 230-6 always looked too many for Atherton. Pro Davendra Bundela hit 86 and Nick Fawcett 45 for Darcy before Atherton were dismissed for 126.

Adlington picked up a good eight-wicket win at Spring View, where Mike Rawlings (3-43) and Iain Critchley (4-35) bowled out the home side for 129. That could have been worse but Martin James (45) and Chris Benson (23) took the score from 54-6 to a more respectable 93-7. Critchley and Chris Mulligan then led Adlington's victory charge with 59 not out and 34 respectively.

Mark Penny's 72 helped Little Hulton to a total of 185, but Michael Crookson played an influential role as Standish replied with 188-6 in a four-wicket win. Crookson took three wickets and then hit 59, while Rick Parker also added 50 for the winners.
