WHILE most youngsters enjoy the long summer break, a group of bright pupils did not want to school to finish.
Fifty-three children from years five and six joined talented pupils at a first-of-its kind summer school at SS Osmunds and Andrew's RC Primary, in Breightmet.
They took part in a series of fun sessions designed to develop their skills.
The pupils wrote poetry, chaired question and answer sessions and took part in art classes, where they designed clothes from newspapers.
Co-ordinator at the Breightmet-based school, Sarah Tootill said: "The summer school is about raising standards and widening the experience of pupils.
"For those going on to year six, the week is to enrich them before they move on to what is a tough year. It is all about building pupils'confidence, for example some pupils find it difficult to work as part of a team, or some who are gifted in sports may not be interested in writing."
Katie Ball, aged nine, who is talented in performing arts, said: "I wish school could be open all the time. I would like to be an actress and this school really encourages it. I have made lots of new friends which has built up my confidence and other social skills."
Jordan Skellorn, aged 11, is talented in art and design and computers.
"This is more fun than staying at home watching television," he said.
The week ended with a display of work for parents and education officers.
