FREEDOM Ladies made it through to the final of the Pike Shield after beating Tonge Moor CC by just seven runs.

Leading by a commanding 53 runs at the interval, they almost gave the game away in the second innings when Tonge Moor belied their lowly league position in section K to score a further 117 runs.

Freedom held on, scored 71 and won the match 197-190. Freedom's top scorers were Gemma McNamara, with 49, Sharon Entwistle, 23, Bethan Isherwood, 21 and Kelly Amphlet, 20.

In the final, they will meet Impression Ladies who beat fellow L section team, Daisy Hill CCB. Impression hold a six-point lead at the top and their superiority showed in a 269-149 win.

In section O, Westhoughton Primary Ladies beat J&D JNRS X1 158-131.

After scoring 49 runs in their first innings, J&D must have felt a win was on when they dismissed nine Westhoughton players for 16 runs.

But Raeline Strickland and Rebecca Edge had other ideas and went on to score a massive 106 runs between them. J&D added another 82 runs in the second half but it was never going to be enough as Westhoughton scored 28 and then declared the match.

Section G produced the closest match of the week with Hanson beating Lord Raglan Ladies by just one run. Lynn Chesters 42, Gwen Robertson 28 and Kerry Stockton 28 were top scorers for Hanson in their 223-222 win.
