TRAFFIC congestion is being caused by 17 weeks of roadworks in Wash Lane, Bury.

Motorists are being advised to change their route to prevent being caught in the queues.

The disruption is being caused by the replacement of a gas main by Transco and the start of the works has been timed to coincide with the school holidays, when there is less traffic.

After Transco has finished, Bury Council will be resurfacing the road and pavement between Parsonage Street and Moorgate.

Congestion is affecting traffic leaving the M66 at junction two as the Wash Lane exit is just 200 yards away. Wash Lane is closed to north-bound traffic.

It is closed between the junction at Rochdale Road up to Moorgate. As work progresses, the council will re-open various sections along the route.

A diversion route is available via Rochdale Road, The Rock and Moorgate.
