A £500 donation to help fund a youth talent showcase has been approved by Westhoughton Town Council.

It will cover the cost of a stage and PA system at the Party in the Park event hosted by Bolton Council's juvenile response team.

The event, which is scheduled to run from noon to 6pm on Saturday, August 12, will provide a platform for young people with anti-social behaviour problems who are putting their efforts into music and acquiring DJ skills.

It was given the go-ahead by Bolton Council after the location was changed from Central Park, Westhoughton, to Westhoughton Leisure Centre, on Bolton Road, in order to avoid complicated licensing regulations.

Members of Westhoughton Town Council had previously approved the grant to fund a marquee for the event, but put the money forward for new use after a marquee was donated. Objecting to the grant, Cllr Joe Hayes raised concern about noise levels at the event.
