DRIVERS are being warned about potential delays with the start of a £1 million roadworks scheme in Worsley this week.

Diversions will be in place for up to 16 weeks as resurfacing work takes place between Worsley Road, the A580 East Lancashire Road and Ringlow Park Road.

A one-way system has been put in place only allowing traffic to travel south from the East Lancashire Road towards Ringlow Park Road.

Drivers wanting to travel up to the East Lancashire Road will have to go via Worsley Brow and Walkden Road. In addition to the one-way system, certain sections of road will be closed for limited periods.

Worsley Road will be closed from its junction with the East Lancashire Road to its junction with Folly Lane from midnight on Saturday, August 12, until 6am on Monday, August 14.

The plan then is to reinstate two-way traffic on Worsley Road from its junction with Folly Lane to the A580, but keeping the one-way system on the remaining sections of road.

But the one-way system could once again be implemented along the length of Worsley Road should there prove to be traffic flow problems.

Cllr Derek Antrobus, lead member for planning at Salford Council, said: "Drivers may experience considerable disruption and I wish to thank everyone in advance for their patience."
