OWEN Coyle is not worried Johan Elmander – or any of his other stars – could leave in January.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce are believed to be poised to make a £3million bid for the Wanderers striker, who has yet to sign a new deal and could walk away for nothing in the summer, while Russians Spartak Moscow are also reported to be keen on the club-record signing.

Tottenham continue to be linked with Gary Cahill – and Harry Redknapp was quick to praise the defender after witnessing him first hand in his side’s 4-2 defeat at the Reebok at the weekend.

But, whereas most managers would be petrified by the prospect of losing their prized assets when the transfer window opens, Coyle insists he is happy that other clubs are coveting his players.

“There are clubs looking at a lot of my players,” he admitted. “It’s because of how well they’re doing. I don’t get too carried away with it.

“If people are looking, it means they are doing well for me and long may that continue.

“It doesn’t concern me if people are making bids. If they are then you deal with it. If they don’t there’s no point pre-empting it.

“Johan is the same as Cahill, Fabrice Muamba, Stuart Holden. If they continue to do well, I’d be very surprised if people are not looking at them. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be doing their jobs properly.

“Bigger clubs come and look at clubs below them and try to buy their players. That’s how football has been since the beginning of time.

“I’ll look at it when it comes round but I’m not worrying about it now.”

Despite Coyle’s assertions otherwise, the Elmander situation is a cause for concern, with Wanderers facing the prospect of losing the £8.2m Swede for nothing in January.

The Scot is keen to keep the 29-year-old, who has struck five times this season and is enjoying his best run of form since joining the club from Toulouse in June 2008.

Coyle wants him to take a salary cut as he looks to trim the the Reebok wage bill – but is still confident he will put pen to paper on a new contract.

He added: “He has a manager who believes in him. Finance is finance but he likes it here.”

Coyle takes his side to Everton tomorrow night with Wanderers flying high, sixth in the Premier League.

And the Scot has not been shocked by the success of his team this season.

He said: “I’m never surprised by this group of players and how hard they work and I’ve always felt that if you work to the standard we have and bring in the quality we have as well, then you can win games and that’s what we have to do.

“But we also know the margins in the Premier League and if we’re not focused for the duration of the game and bringing our best game to the table then we won’t win points.

“We have to make sure we’re at our best each and every time, which is a big ask of the players, but the way they work on the training ground is reflected in the games, how we’ve gone about it.”

Coyle has no new injury worries for the trip to Goodison.
