THE main train line between Bolton and Manchester was shut following a gas cylinder blaze.
The fire broke out at a body shop off Manchester Road at 11am.
Police cordoned off access to Orlando Bridge and the footbridge from Thynne Street and Manchester Road.
Firefighters said it was a safety precaution while they waited for the cylinder burn itself out.
No-one was injured in the incident and employees at BMW Williams Body Shop and nearby B&M Bargains have been evacuated.
The line has since re-opened.
