SUGAR and spice and all things nice - that’s what royal weddings are made of - at least that what Bolton craft bakery Greenhalgh’s says.

For the creative ladies in the Lostock bakery’s cake celebration department have made giant sugar paste figures of Kate and Wills and even gingerbread crowns to celebrate the forthcoming royal wedding.

The royal wedding is only days away but these ‘sweethearts’ are already on a mini-royal tour of the North West Greenhalgh bakery shops.

The two 120cm figurines are being showcased in their stores around the North West to allow any royal fans who are sweet about the couple to come and have their picture taken with them.

David Smart, production director and second generation baker, said: “The royal wedding is an exciting time for everyone and our expert team of cake decorators couldn’t resist making models of the happy couple.

“We then had to decide on what to do with the figures and it seemed only fair that like their real life counterparts they make an official visit around the North West.

“We have also created a selection of fun products for families to enjoy on 29 April ranging from gingerbread crowns to special Royal Wedding cakes for street parties.”

The figures are being displayed in Bootle, Didsbury, Ormskirk, finishing off at the Deansgate, Bolton store on April 28.

At each location visitors will be invited to pose for a picture with the figures and post it to the Greenhalgh’s Facebook page, where they will be entered into a prize draw for a Royal Wedding Party Pack plus six inch round royal wedding cake.

Mr Smart added: “We have had a lot of interest in the figures and we have sold a lot of the wedding cakes - at least 50 were bought by a Liverpool hospital.”

• Greenhalgh’s was founded in 1957 in Bolton and now operates 59 stores in the North West of England.

• The Greenhalgh’s royal wedding party pack includes two sausage rolls, two potato and meat pies, two beefsteak pasties, two potato and meat pasties and two cheese and onion pasties.
