BOLTON is putting the final touches to Royal Wedding street parties across the borough.

As neighbours come together to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday, a total of 14 roads will be closed across Bolton.

The residents of Brookside Close in Bradshaw can be considered old hands when it comes to throwing a right royal bash — they have previously celebrated the Queen’s Silver and Golden Jubilees with street parties.

Mike Cresswell, one of the organising committee, said he was expecting more than 70 neighbours, ex-neighbours and friends to show up. He added: “Everyone is getting into the spirit of things and although some people are not available because of work, everybody has signed to say they do not mind the road being closed.

“We have held parties in the past for royal occasions and they have been such a good success we wanted to do something again this time.”

As well as food and drink, residents in Brookside Close will be treated to live music and games. Mr Cresswell, who lives with his wife Chris, added: “We have something for all ages.”

Another group of patriotic neighbours, in Thorns Road, Astley Bridge, are gearing up for their own celebration, the sixth such gettogether residents have held over the last few decades. Organiser Carole Harrison, a retired bank worker, said: “We have had a few parties before for things like VE Day, the Queen’s Silver and Golden Jubilee and the wedding of Charles and Diana, so we are really looking forward to this one.”

Every child will also be given a special memento of the big day — a William and Kate money box — thanks to a grant from the Astley Bridge Area Forum.

Prince William will marry Miss Middleton at a ceremony at 11am at Westminster Abbey.

● Four community groups are clubbing together to celebrate the Royal Wedding on Friday.

Sunnyside Development Group, Sunnyside Tuesday Club, Friends of Sunnyside Park and Roseneath Area Residents Association will hold a wedding reception at Sunnyside Community Centre from 2pm to 4pm.
