HORWICH RMI’s James Kevan won the latest round of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix hosted by Wigan Pheonix over a fourmile course at Haigh Hall country park.

All local clubs were well represented, as 198 people took part in the race run over the uncompromising circuit.

Kevan won in 20.57 with the host club’sMikeO’Neill a close second in 21.02.

Bolton United Harriers’ 18-year-old Tom Carson was third overall and first junior in 21.27 and – as a result – still heads the Under-20s rankings in the Endurance Challenge, leading Mark Swannell (21.57), Shay Walker (22.17) and Ian Selby (22.31) to victory in the men’s team category.

Andy Parker’s 22.56 on his comeback appearance, Dave Shaw (23.56), Steve Houghton (24.11), Ben Scott (24.28), Daryl Bentley (24.53) and Graham Shaw (25.34) formed the rest of the 10 counters for the league in which Bolton opened a small gap of four points over Astley & Tyldesley.

TraceyDutton (25.24) won the women’s race by four seconds from Wigan Phoenix team-mate Rachael Moore. Lindsay Warburton was first home for Bolton in 32.39.

Carson followed up his success by winning the senior men’s 3,000m race at the Greater Manchester C h a m p i o n s h i ps a t Stretford in 8mins 53secs, one second behind his personal best.

In the Manchester 10K on Sunday, Tony Valentine (32.02) was 57th in a field of nearly 30,000, while James Rideout’s (38.24) saw him home in a creditable 15th in the M45 category.
