A BOLTON would-be MP — dubbed a “Cameron cutie” — has been told she will not be standing at the next General Election.

Deborah Dunleavy, who lost out to Labour candidate David Crausby, has been axed from the party’s approved list of candidates, despite predictions she may have been ready to take on a safer Tory seat.

There is, however, a place on the list for Bolton Cllr Andy Morgan, who lost out to L a b o u r ’ s Ya s m i n Qureshi in Bolton South East, while Bolton West candidate Susan Williams, a former leader of Trafford Council, has also been retained by the Tory top brass.

Ms Dunleavy, who was branded as a “Cameron cutie” for leading David Cameron’s drive for more female MPs, previously lost to former MP Dr Brian Iddon in Bolton South East in 2005.

She said: “I'm very disappointed but totally accept the Party’s decision.

I want nothing more than to be a Conservative MP and will continue in my voluntary roles as Regional Leader of Women2Win and national coordinator of Social Action in hope of the Party including me on the list in the future.”

Cllr Morgan, who cut the Labour majority in Bolton South East from 11,638 to 8,634, said: “I think it is recognition for the team effort we had at the last General Election and I’m obviously really pleased. We still have a lot to do in Bolton in terms of working on the groups of people who perhaps would not normally vote for us.

“I will not be chasing seats around the country, my ambition is to represent the people of Bolton.” Only those on the party’s approved list can apply to be a Conservative candidate.

Those shortlisted by the Party are then interviewed by members of the local association who then vote for their preferred choice.

Between now and the next General Election, the work of all those on the list will be assessed by party chief.
