A MAN who sexually assaulted a nine-year-old boy has been jailed.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Khurram Shazad, who came to Britain from Pakistan two years ago, faces automatic deportation at the end of his sentence.

Shazad, aged 29, of Deane Road, Bolton, had pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration.

Geoffrey Southcote-Want, prosecuting, told the court how the victim, had been visiting a house where Shazad was on February 12 this year.

While there, Shazad had taken the boy to an attic room where he had assaulted him.

Mr Southcote-Want said the child had gone willingly with Shazad.

“He thought he was going to be treated to some sweets,” he said.

When the child’s mother arrived at the house to collect him, the boy told her what had happened.

She took him to the Royal Bolton Hospital and the police were called.

Shazad was arrested early the next day.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, the child’s mother told how he has been badly affected by the assault, suffering mood swings and his behaviour becoming unpredictable.

Colin Buckle, defending, said Shazad, who had only recently married and had a three-month-old child of his own at the time of the offence, had worked as a barber.

But as he has been remanded in custody for the past four-and-a-half months his business has been ruined.

He added that while Shazad has admitted the offence he has struggled to come to terms with his actions.

Mr Buckle said: “He is unable to identify the reasons why he acted the way he did.”

Sentencing Shazad to three years and four months in jail, Judge Timothy Clayson told him he would also be put on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
