SPORTING heroes will be taking part in a fun day of sports and activities at Bolton Arena later this month.
The venue is opening its doors on Saturday, September 23, which is National Lottery Day, for a free open day designed to show the difference that lottery funding makes to communities.
Among the activities on offer is the chance to play basketball with the Bolton Bulls, take part in a badminton taster session and get involved in a tennis tournament or a 5-a-side football competition. There will be a number of special guest appearances on the day.
Bolton Arena, next to the Reebok Stadium in Burnden Way, Horwich, has received lottery grants totalling more than £11 million. Boxing events featuring local hero Amir Khan, world class darts and the badminton matches at the 2002 Commonwealth Games are among the event staged since it opened in April 2001.
Sue Hayes of Bolton Arena said: "Bolton Arena, which is now a major sporting facility for indoor and outdoor sports, would not be here without the funding we received from The National Lottery."
