Captains Blogg, star date 13th August 2011' our mission to explore new worlds......well we did that for sure last night when we left Wick and we saw the sign saying "you are now leaving civilisation - be sure to leave the keys under the mat"!

But we survived the 10 hour drive up and awoke early for a very early start. However they forgot to tell the hotel staff who didn't arrive to serve breakfast until 7.45 and then it was down to the start for the photo by the famous sign post....only you can't as the photographer owns the sign and doesn't bring it until 10.30am, so here we are on the start line all logo'd up and ready to rock - next stop Inverness 120 miles away.

The morning weather was terrible, pouring with rain and a 20 mph head wind, but to our surprise it soon cleared, the sun came out though the wind stayed with us all day?

The scenery on the ride down was superb! We rode down the coast and it was breathtaking. 60 mile on, lunch came and went and then came the grind down the Inverness. We regretted the late start as we arrived in Inverness late on a Saturday "local big night" stopping in a Travellers Hostel right in the centre of town - in a shared room for 10.......!!

Not surprisingly, we are planning an early start tomorrow so I'll update you then, but for the record we spend 8hrs 49mins 28secs. Max speed 41mph. Average speed 13.6mph. And was on the road 10.5 hours.....things can only get better! Only injury was to our pride to having to sharing a dormitory with no running water, and to James who suffered some minor chaffing!
