Celebrating a century of showcasing the very best in horticulture, the Harrogate Flower Shows are set to offer something truly BIG this autumn for gardening enthusiasts across the country. We have teamed up with the show organisers to promote their competition to give five lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to attend the event.

New for the 2011 Harrogate Autumn Flower Show (16 -18 September) is a series of classes for giant vegetables adding mammoth marrows, tremendous tomatoes and colossal cucumbers to the traditional displays of top class fruit, vegetables and flowers.

As well as looking back on the summer’s successful harvest, there will be plenty of opportunity to find inspiration for the new growing year. A centenary Garden Border Competition is being launched inviting garden designers, landscapers, colleges and other horticultural organisations to create and build the perfect border display.

For the first time this autumn there will be a series of floral art demonstrations in the marquee, providing inspiration for keen flower arrangers. This will include special talks by the Royal National Rose Society and the Amateur Rose Breeders Association about taking cuttings and creating new roses.

If early Christmas shopping is on the agenda (and even if it’s not) there are more than 100 exhibitors in this year’s horticultural sundries section offering a staggering range of gardening-related items. Combine this with over 60 gift and handmade craft stands and you can’t fail to find something for everyone on your list!

The Harrogate Flower Shows are organised and run by the North of England Horticultural Society. The Society, which supports over 50 horticultural charities and organisations, is proud to have HRH The Prince of Wales as its Patron and this year welcomed the Duchess of Northumberland as its new President.
