COMEDIAN Paddy McGuinness has said he would love to work with pal Peter Kay on a film of the hit series Phoenix Nights — even though he prefers presenting to acting.

The Take Me Out host said: “It would be great to do a Phoenix Nights film, I love working with Peter anyway, but I don’t know much about it yet. When he said it I had my head in my hands — I thought, that’s all I’ll hear for the next six months now!

“Acting isn’t my forte — I couldn’t do Shakespeare on stage or anything. I love the light entertainment shows with a live audience, but if the right thing came along acting-wise I would consider it.”

The 37-year-old’s most recent acting role is in Caroline Aherne’s comedy series The Security Men, which will air on ITV1 next year.

Talking about filming for the show, which took place earlier this year, he said: “What I like about Caroline is, considering the success she has had and the awards she has won, she doesn’t go about giving it “Charlie big time”.”

With his stand-up tour starting in just over a week, Paddy is very busy, but that has not stopped him thinking about the future with his new wife Christine Martin, and particularly the possibility of children in the future.

“Everything’s on the horizon and we talk about stuff like that all the time,” he said.

The tour starts on October 5 in York, and takes in 10 dates, finishing at the MEN Arena on October 29 with a show that will be filmed for Paddy’s new DVD.

He said: “The show is very visual — I didn’t want to just go on stage and tell jokes for a couple of hours, so in one part I interact with every single person in the audience and in another we play Take Me Out live on stage. I thought I would have to work hard to get people to volunteer for that, but in the end I was having to beg people to stop trying to come up.”
