UNSUNG heroines will be feted and celebrated at the 14th annual Bury Woman of the Year event next month.

Nominations are being sought for those who deserve the title for 2011 before the deadline of October 3 at 5pm.

Bury Woman of the Year, organised by Bury Hospice, will award winners in three different categories as well as an overall winner.

The Carer Category, sponsored by Majestic Publications, seeks nominations for someone who cares for one person or many. They may care for a neighbour, family member or friend; they could be a devoted foster parent or it might be a person from a caring profession.

To be considered for the Volunteer Category, sponsored by Pennine Telecom, a nominee may be someone who shows remarkable selflessness, devotion and service to the Bury community.

The Business/Professional/Entrepreneur category, sponsored by Clough & Willis, celebrates female corporate talent, ability and achievement. A nominee should be an exceptional businesswoman, professional or entrepreneur working in the borough who has made a fundamental contribution to the success and development of their particular organisation.

Category winners and the overall winner will be announced at the Bury Woman of the Year event to be staged on Thursday October 13. The event, sponsored by Butcher & Barlow Solicitors, will be held at the Bolholt Country Park Hotel.

Speaker will be Lilian King, who served as a chief superintendent with Greater Manchester Police until she retired in March 2010 after 30 years.
