RESIDENTS packed a town council meeting last night to raise concerns about plans for a quarry. Armstrongs Aggregate Ltd has applied for planning permission to vary a condition to allow sandstone to be extracted for another nine years from Montcliffe Quarry in Horwich.

The company says there is a shortage of crushed rock in the area. Residents are concerned that it could lead to an increase in traffic on the roads.

Ward councillor Richard Silvester raised concerns before the meeting, saying he had checked the levels of rock and there is no shortage in the area so he said planning permission should not be given.
