WHAT will a Bolton town centre of the future look like?

Will there be space-age office blocks, flying cars or robot shop assistants?

Who better to ask than the present generation of children? And the most imaginative visions of the future will be buried in a time capsule for another generation to discover. As part of the development of the £30 million Bolton One, a time capsule will be buried there next month.

The Bolton News with Bolton Council, NHS Bolton and the University of Bolton, is run- ning a competition to find the best images of Bolton in the future.

We are asking the town’s chil- dren to put their ideas on paper and a panel of judges will choose the best to take their place in the capsule, which will be buried under the walkway at the entrance to Bolton One.

Also in the capsule will be items showing the past and the present, as well as the future.

Old maps and archive photo- graphs of the Bolton One site and details of historical inci- dents including World War Two bombings, make up the past.

For the present there will be a copy of The Bolton News and latest copies of Bolton Scene and Bolton Life.

As 2012 is Olympics year there will be the two mascots, Mandeville and Wenlock which were “born” in Bolton, plus two DVDs detailing the story of where they came from.

The capsule will include details of the Olympic torch relay, which is coming through Bolton next year.

And the future? That is down to the youngsters of the town.

There are four age ranges: four to seven years, eight to 11 years, 12 to 16 years and 16 plus.

Send your entries on a piece of A4 paper to Bolton of the Future, Lynn Ashwell, Deputy Editor, The Bolton News, Churchgate, Bolton, BL1 1DE, by Friday, October 7.

The winner from each section will be invited as a guest to the time capsule burial ceremony.
