TWO dynamic developers have been given the go-ahead for their latest ambitious project— to turn a derelict water tank into an Iron-Age roundhouse “hotel”.

It is planned to use the water tank, which has been targeted by graffiti artists, as a des-res bunkhouse for cyclists and ramblers.

Anthony Whittle and Robert Worsley, of Bolton firm Harwood Homes, have already announced plans to transforman underground reservoir into a £2 million des-res ‘Womble’ house, off Brookfold Lane, in Harwood.

Now they have turned their attention to the water tank, which is off Bradshaw Road, in Affetside. The pair bought the tank for £80,000.

At a meeting, Bury planning committee granted permission for work to begin.

The lower floor will have two dormitories, each with four bunk beds, two bathrooms and a log burner, while the first floor will have a lounge, open-plan kitchen, a logburning stove for dining. It will boast a fabulous 360-degree view of the West Pennine Moors and will be fitted with solar panels and straw-bale insulation.

Earlier this year, several travel firms praised the duo for their imaginative designs and said the roundhouse would be a big draw.

Mr Whittle, Harwood Homes managing director, said: “We were really chuffed to get permission and delighted with the compliments we have been receiving.

“The work will take between three and six months to finish.

We’ve already had five or six groups of walkers who definitely want to book, so that’s encouraging.

We were gobsmacked by the artist’s impression shot and think this bunkhouse will be a great little getaway for families getting out into beautiful countryside.”
