A MOTORCYCLIST avoided serious injury after he crashed his bike on the motorway early yesterday morning.
The rider came off his bike on the M61 northbound Kearsley spur at about 6.15am.
He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for a check-up but did not suffer serious injuries.
Police and the Highways Agency cleared the scene.
The accident happened just yards from where another motorcyclist, Neil Murphy, was killed last Monday.
Mr Murphy, aged 39, of St Leonard’s Avenue, Lostock, died just before 8am when he crashed on the southbound carriageway of the M61 Kearsley spur.
The accident allegedly involved a car which did not collide with Mr Murphy’s bike.
A 46-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until early December pending further inquiries.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police on 0161 872 5050.
