BURY Athletic Club’s runners continued their excellent winter form in the South East Lancs League at Boggart Hole Clough last weekend.

As with the previous weekend, Ben Forrest and George Yates produced excellent runs in the Under-11 boys’ race.

Forrest had to settle for second place on a flat course that did not suit his superior strength, whilst Yates took third.

Supported by Cian Herdson in ninth, Laurie Milligan 13th, Daniel Matthews 15th, Joseph Lee, Mikey Hodgkinson and Oliver Wilson, the team also finished second.

Tallulah Cullen continued her recent good form with ninth place in the girls’ race for this age group. The team finished fourth overall with Cullen backed up by Teegan Brady in 12th, Daisy Worthington 13th, Charlotte Farnworth 17th and Ella Tyrell 21st.

Antonia Kean has shown steady improvement through the winter and despite a slow start, moved through the U15 girls’ field to finish third.

With Jennifer Smalley fifth, Lizzie Howard eighth and Niamh Herdson 13th, the team had an easy win.

In the U15 boys’ race, Benn Heywood again ran splendidly for second place. In the U13 events, Sam Brooks was an outstanding third for the boys and Chelsey Lee 15th amongst the girls. Nathan Milligan was sixth in a strong field in the U17 men’s race.

The senior men were led home by Andy Milligan in 18th place , good enough for third in the Vet 45 age group.

With several athletes missing, the team finished eighth overall, with Milligan supported by Duncan Forrest in 59th, Dave Grundy 65th, David Fowler-Gibbs 87th, Nigel Brady 92nd and David Flood 104th. For the women, Janet Rigby had an outstanding run, finishing 16th overall and fourth in the Vet 45 category.

Bury’s athletes now have a month before they return to action in the Greater Manchester Championships in Stockport.
