A MEMORIAL cricket match for a local cricketer who died, age 35, raised £810.
Darren Andrews, of Kenyon Way, Little Hulton, died of cancer in Hope Hospital on April 19. He had been a member of Little Hulton cricket club since he was in his early teens.
His friends organised a memorial match in his honour to raise cash for Hope Hospital intensive care unit. Spectators paid £1 to watch the game between the club's first team and another mixed team in August.
Friend Stephanie Stanley, who helped organise the event, said: "It was a really good day. We raised about £600 on the day and the rest from donations."
Darren was diagnosed with cancer just weeks before he died.
He had complained of headaches and doctors eventually found an inoperable tumour at the top of his spine.
