WINGATES Band is celebrating the 100th anniversary of picking up the British National Championship title by holding an Autumn Proms concert in Bolton.

One of the leading personalities in the brass band world, Dr Roy Newsome, will be the guest conductor for the concert, which will conclude with a "last night of the proms" finale.

The Autumn Proms will take place at Bolton's Victoria Hall on October 21 and will provide the first opportunity for audiences in Bolton to see the new Wingates musical prodigy, 10-year-old, principal trombone player, Peter Moore, in action.

He will be performing one of the trombone solos with which he has amazed audiences at various venues in the North-west since joining the band in September.

The band was given the prestigious award in 1906 at London's Crystal Palace. Previously that year they won the British Open Championship title, at Manchester's Belle Vue gardens.

The band repeated the feat in 1907 and this "double double" has only been achieved on one other occasion in the past century.

Joining Wingates on stage at the Victoria Hall will be their special guests, the award-winning Warrington Male Voice Choir.

The band has just returned from a trip with the choir to the Isle of Man, where they played a concert in the island's auditorium, The Royal Hall of the Villa Marina.

The concert was held to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Tickets for the Autumn Proms which starts at 7,30pm, cost £9 with concessions £8. Phone Bolton Albert Halls box office on 01204 334400 or contact David Kaye on 07970 131460 or 01942 845001.
