IT'S good to be home was the message from McFly as they rocked Manchester last night.

And there was a special cheer for Bromley Cross singer/guitarist Danny Jones when he told the thousands of fans packed into the MEN Arena: "It's good to be near home - I only live over the road. Is anyone from Bolton?"

Danny and bandmates Tom, Harry and Dougie were in town as part of their nationwide tour to promote their forthcoming third album, The Motion in the Ocean, due to be released later this year.

And in keeping with the seaside theme, their set featured a beach bar and the boys had fans brought on stage to soak up the atmosphere with them.

The show started with fireworks as they sang Please, Please, before launching into hit after hit.

They performed a range of old and new tracks, including their number ones, It's All About You, and 5 Colours In Her Hair.

They also launched into various cover versions, including the Beastie Boys' Fight for Your Right, and the Ghostbusters' theme, which fitted into their Arena karakoe session with the lyrics appearing on screen for fans to sing along to.

And there was another treat in store during their cover of the Queen song Don't Stop Me Now, when McFly were joined on stage by former Busted star Matt Willis.

But it was Danny who brought the house down with his solo rock ballad Not Alone, from the band's first album.

Meanwhile, Dougie and Tom frolicked in the bar and threw ice and drinks over the audience.

And there was a special mention for Tom's mum, who was celebrating her birthday by cheering on her son.

The boys ended with plenty of energy with 5 Colours in Her Hair, to the delight of the audience of mainly screaming schoolgirls and their toe-tapping dads.
