VANDALS targeted cars parked in a street in Little Lever causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Yobs scratched marks and obscene words on the paintwork of up to 20 cars in Lancaster Drive on Tuesday night.

Residents contacted the police, but said nothing had been done to catch the culprits.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "Whoever has been doing this are the dregs of society.

"We have contacted the police in the area but so far nothing seems to have been done.

"They need to get the neighbours together and see how we can combat this because it is not on.

"My car and my partner's car have both been targeted along with several others in the street. I think up to 20 cars have been attacked.

"The scratch marks have caused £2,000 of damage on my car. I took it to a garage and they said it is a write-off.

"My neighbour had obscene words written on his and others have rude drawings on, which is embarrassing to drive."

It is believed that the vandals struck after 10.30pm on Tuesday night, and residents only discovered the damage when they got up for work the next day.

Neighbours are now thinking about installing CCTV systems and other security measures to prevent it happening again.

Area Inspector for Bolton South, Chris Makin, assured residents that the police are doing what they can to address the problem.

He said: "The local officers are making inquiries into the case.

"Anyone who has seen anything, or has any information about who caused the damage, should contact us."
