COUNCILLORS have approved 36 new homes as part of a scheme to breathe new life into Top o' th' Brow.
Bolton Planning chiefs approved the houses in Greenroyd Avenue at a meeting of the council's planning and highways committee.
A total of 54 homes have been bulldozed on the site and the Great Places Housing Group scheme includes 21 two-storey houses and 15 bungalows which will be offered either for rent or shared ownership.
A combined new access road will serve 22 of the properties, with the others fronting onto Greenroyd Avenue. A community centre/Sure Start building is also proposed on land adjacent to the site as part of a broader plan to regenerate the area.
In her report, planning officer Kathryn Boggiano told councillors: "The proposal will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider area and will improve the character and appearance of the ara.
"It is considered that the proposal would not unduly impact on the living conditions of either surrounding residents or future residents of the scheme.
