BRAVE sisters Isobel and Hannah Regan are united in their bid to overcome their fear of heights - to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Both girls were born with the condition but haven't let their illness stop them from living a full and active life.

Now they intend to take part in a sponsored abseil at the home of their favourite football team, Manchester United.

The event takes place 120 feet up the North Stand at Old Trafford during the weekend of October 28 and 29, and the sisters have set up a fundraising website to boost their sponsorship.

Mum Angela, of Poppythorn Lane, Prestwich, said: "Both girls are quite keen to do this. Over the years we have done quite a bit of fundraising and I just happened to come across the abseil on the website.

"I asked them if they fancied doing it and they both said they would like to. Isobel in particular is scared of heights, but she is determined to do it. I, on the other hand, will be standing very nervously at the bottom!"

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition that clogs the internal organs with a sticky mucus that often leads to chronic infections and inflammation of the lungs.

Hannah (17) and Isobel (9) have recently undergone a two-week spell in hospital for treatment and they have to have a check up every six weeks.

They must take a combination of medication each day and undergo daily physiotherapy to break up the mucus in order to keep their symptoms in check.

Hannah has just gained nine GCSEs and is studying at Holy Cross College, Bury, with hopes of going to university, while Isobel loves to take part in netball and dancing.

Angela added: "They are just two ordinary girls who lead very full lives. Obviously they take tons of medication and have physio twice a day but they are quite independent. I am very proud of them."

Anyone wishing to sponsor the girls can log onto their fund raising website www.justgiving.com/belandhann (blob) To join the girls and take part in the event, contact the Cystic Fibrosis team on 0845 859 1100 or email events@cftrust.org.uk Particpants must raise a minumum of £100 and the top fundraiser will win a pair of signed football boots by Rio Ferdinand.
