OWEN Coyle has given a second chance to young striker Joe McKee, the Scotland youth international released by Burnley after failing to make the grade.
Coyle paid £100,000 for his services at Turf Moor in 2009 after watching him score a hatful of goals for Livingston’s youth team and earn a call up to the senior team at the age of 16.
But after a bright start, he struggled to make an impact in Lancashire and after Coyle’s departure was loaned out briefly to St Mirren, making two appearances.
It is understood he was offered a chance to earn a new contract with the Clarets in the final three months of last season but opted to leave to find another club.
McKee, aged 19, announced his Reebok arrival on Twitter, writing: “Delighted and proud to have signed for Bolton Wanderers. Pre-season starts Thursday time to get the head down.”
The Linlithgow-born forward has joined Wanderers as a second year professional.
