HEALTH professionals are set to show people how to get active by taking part in the first national NHS Fun Triathlon, which is being held in Bolton.

The event, which takes place on July 15, and is open to NHS staff from across the UK, will take place in the countryside around Horwich and Rivington.

It is hoped the triathlon will attract novice teams to try the 400m swim, 21k cycle and 5k run.

Individual athletes are also invited to take part in the first National Championships for NHS triathletes.

Supporters and helpers are also encouraged to sign-up to back their colleagues.

NHS Bolton’s Get Active team are working with Bolton-based design and marketing agency, Portfolio, to bring Triathlon fever to the NHS during 2012’s action-packed summer of sport.

Portfolio founder and head of creative services, Darren Clare, said: “Bolton is the perfect location for this event and Portfolio has been involved in promoting sport in the region since the Commonwealth Games over a decade ago.

“Triathlon is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and this event, which allows teams of three to compete together in a fun environment, makes it approachable for people wanting to take part in their first triathlon.

“We have worked on health awareness campaigns for the NHS for many years. We are experts at inspiring people to take part in lifestyle changing events.”
